Sketch your , then find out what it costs

No material is selected to begin with, so dragging on the grid does nothing until you pick one below. Drag to paint an area; tap once to drop a sprinkler head or tree. Add layer builds up instead of replacing, so topsoil then sod on top of it both get counted. Hatching in the lower material's colour means an area has layers under it. The Paint row sets the shape of a stroke. Brush paints the squares you drag across and Fill area floods an area from a tap. Rectangle drags out a box, Circle starts on the middle and drags out to the edge, so a ring of mulch round a tree is one drag from the trunk, Freeform traces a bed by hand and closes the loop for you, Sides places it one corner at a time, and Path follows a drag as a strip of the width you set, with rounded ends, for a gravel walk or a stepping-stone route. The squares inside the shape are what get painted and counted, and the sheet draws the shape's own edge, so a circle is drawn as a circle. They all work with the eraser too, and with Add layer. Anything measured by the foot (edging, fence, hedge, retaining wall, drip line, string lights) is laid as a run: pick Straight, Curvy, Circle or Freeform, then drag on the sketch. Straight snaps square with Square corners on; curvy bows the drag into waves, with Bends and Height setting how many and how deep; circle rings a bed or a tree; freeform follows your hand exactly. Each run is labelled with its length, and the ground it covers is taken off the material underneath. Runs are priced by the linear foot, and the ground they cover comes off whatever they were laid over. The eraser removes a run you tap. Dragged across the sketch, the eraser takes off whatever you start it on, gravel if you press on gravel, and leaves everything else alone, so an erase that strays past a bed does not take the lawn with it. A layer under it stays. Start it on bare paper to clear everything it crosses. Note writes on the plan: “dog run”, “slopes to the street”, “shed goes here”. Tap the sketch to drop one and type it, tap it again to change the words, drag it to move it, and clear the words to take it off. Notes cost nothing and are counted nowhere; they are there because whoever reads the plan is often not the person who drew it. Measure is a tape: drag between two points and the distance is written along the line, with nothing placed. Esc puts the tape away. A placed item can be turned with the Turn slider, or with [ and ], so a shed sits square to an angled wall. Hold Alt while dragging an item to drag off a copy of it, and switch on Lay in a row with an item picked to drag out a whole line of them, touching, in one go. Existing holds the house, the driveway and anything else already there: paint them so the plan shows the whole lot. They are cross-hatched, and they are in no total, because they are not being bought.
